ESTUDAR EM HARVARD: SIM, É POSSÍVEL!
Aluno dedicado na escola e motivado a estudar nos Estados Unidos pelos programas de TV e notícias que acompanhava, Pedro, aluno DPF, nem sonhava estudar em uma das maiores universidades do mundo: Harvard.
Admitido para Engenharia Biomédica em Harvard e em mais 5 universidades americanas, Pedro decidiu estudar fora do país após muitas pesquisas e com base em alguns dados:
“As melhores instituições de ensino e pesquisa do mundo estão no exterior e concentradas nos EUA. Se eu quisesse ter a melhor formação possível, teria que ir para lá. Além disso, o mercado americano de engenharia não é saturado, os EUA precisam de engenheiros para suprir as necessidades nacionais. Também sempre tive vontade de conhecer o mundo, mas não como turista, e sabia que isso não aconteceria se ficasse em um lugar só.”
Ainda assim, ele não acreditava ser possível estudar em Harvard e quase não se candidatou para a universidade.
“Meu sonho desde criança era o MIT, parecia que a maiores cabeças do mundo estavam lá. Mas também havia uma ‘expectativa’ em relação a Harvard, por ser a universidade de maior nome no mundo. Meus amigos brincavam que eu iria para Harvard, mas eu nunca dava muita bola. Na realidade, esta foi a última universidade que eu escolhi para aplicar, por incentivo do Felipe Fonseca. Parece ironia do destino, mas eu não poderia estar mais feliz. Hoje, acho que meu perfil realmente se encaixa melhor em Harvard.”
Apesar de não querer criar muita expectativa após o envio da candidatura, Pedro estava confiante, principalmente após os primeiros resultados que recebeu, de cinco respostas, todas tinham sido positivas. Depois, no entanto, vieram 10 rejeições seguidas. “Quando abri o site de Harvard, já esperava ser rejeitado novamente e quando vi que havia sido aceito, não acreditei. Foi uma das melhores surpresas da minha vida. Depois que assimilei que havia mesmo passado, não consegui parar quieto por umas duas horas. Após essa notícia, só consegui dormir naquele dia às 6h da manhã.”
O resultado não poderia ser outro quando olhamos sua dedicação durante o colégio. Pedro não se acomodava e nem deixava de estudar o necessário, o que lhe garantiu notas altas, ponto que é muito levado em consideração pelas universidades na candidatura – “No final do ensino médio meu coeficiente foi de 95%”- . Mas no meio da rotina de estudos também havia espaço para tempo livre, no qual ele se dedicava às atividades extracurriculares, como olimpíadas acadêmicas, dava aulas particulares, fazia viagens de cunho acadêmico e também ia para academia, praticava jiu-jitsu, karatê e muay thai.
Com a aproximação da 3ª série do Ensino Médio, e o acompanhamento da Daquiprafora, Pedro se dedicou às provas americanas e realizou seu estágio/voluntariado.
“A DPF me ajudou demais nesse processo. Principalmente na questão de cronograma e na parte burocrática, em um primeiro momento. Confesso que eu ficaria completamente perdido. Eu iniciei o ano já buscando fazer as provas o mais cedo possível, para tirar essa responsabilidade das minhas costas. Estudei por conta própria para algumas coisas e com um tutor para outras. Não me matava de estudar, mantinha meu tempo de lazer, mas garantia que estava aprendendo o suficiente. Depois que eu terminei as provas, o Felipe me indicou fazer algum estágio ou algo do tipo para provar minha aptidão em engenharia biomédica. Corri atrás e fiz, o que realmente enriqueceu e deu coesão para o meu currículo. Foi corrido e estressante, mas muito menos do que seria sem a Daquiprafora”.
Pedro embarca para essa nova etapa da jornada em agosto e está animado em poder extrair da experiência tudo o que conseguir: “o caminho que vou traçar lá dentro só o tempo dirá, mas tenho certeza que vou ter o total amparo para que seja o melhor possível para mim”. Quando questionado sobre se há algum receio, Pedro menciona a distância da família e a preocupação com um clima diferente do Brasil –“já fiquei longe da minha família quando era mais novo, mas nunca por longos períodos. E o frio de Boston com o qual não estou acostumado. Mas acredito que consigo contornar tudo isso e ter uma experiência excepcional”.
Para quem ainda está pensando sobre a possibilidade de estudar no exterior ou já sonha com Harvard e outras grandes universidades, Pedro deixa uma dica:
“Não é porque uma faculdade possui nome ou excelência acadêmica que é a melhor escolha para você. Cada universidade tem um perfil individual e se não bater com o perfil do estudante, a chance de admissão diminui, e se for aceito sem ter certeza do que quer, a chance da experiência não ser boa é grande. E se as coisas não forem como o planejado, sempre é possível reavaliar e partir para o plano B. Muito sucesso para quem irá buscar esse caminho!”
